Frequently Asked Questions

Recovery

Regular physical therapy versus Project Walk

Do you have a spinal cord injury?

While I do not have an injury as a result of a physical accident, I do have lesions on C5-C6 and T4 which interrupted the signals to move my legs. The process to recover activity in my legs is the same - retrain the central nervous system to connect to the muscles through intensive physical activity.

Why doesn't insurance pay for Project Walk?

Unfortunately, insurance views Project Walk as strictly exercise based therapy, not "Physical Therapy". Even though Project Walk has a track record of getting people walking again, it's not a quick fix. It takes years of visits, multiple days per week, and insurance balks at the huge costs involved in extended recovery therapy. Even when insurance does pay for traditional physical therapy, they put a limit of 10-20 sessions per year.

Donations

Why did you use NTAF and not Paypal?

NTAF provides accountability (your donations can only be used for medical related expenses) and 501(c)(3) status, which means donations are tax deductible for you to the extent allowed by law.

How frequently is the Total Donations graph on your site updated?

NTAF gives us totals weekly, and we will update the graph as the new totals are received.

Will you be able to see that I donated, and how much I donated?

NTAF will provide us with the names of people who donated, but they do not disclose to us the amount of each donation.

Can I make credit card donations on a monthly schedule?

Yes - the NTAF has a form you can fill out to make recurring donations.

Web Site

How did you create this really cool site?

We used Dreamweaver CS3 for page layout, Omnigraffle Pro for graphics, and a blog engine called BlogCFC for the progress page. The videos were done in iMovie HD, exported to mp4, then converted to flv via VisualHub.
